Alexi Lalas Soccer professional career

Alexi Lalas began his career in Padova, an Italian club in which he spent his first couple of years as a professional. Then, he played at New England Revolution and Emelec (an Ecuadorian soccer team).

As an integral defender at the 1994 World Cup, Lalas guided his team and carried them all way beyond expectations.

From 1996 to 2003, Lalas made a name for himself as one of the top defenders in MLS. He played for top clubs such as MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls), where his performance flourished over two seasons, until 1999 when he moved to Kansas City Wizards (currently Sporting Kansas City).

Finally, he played for Los Angeles Galaxy where he retired after two years, leaving an important legacy and an unblemished track record.

Life after retirement

Lalas was instrumental in making MLS a recognized professional soccer league, and he continued to bring his immense talent to the San Jose Earthquakes as president and general manager.
