Who was Raquel Welch?

Raquel Welch was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago, Illinois on Sept 5, 1940. She grew up with two brothers and a sister. Her dad was an immigrant from Bolivia and worked in a steel factory, while her mum was English and Scottish descendant.

This mix of ethnicities and cultures made Raquel an extremely appealing and interesting woman who caught the attention of men wherever she went.

This feature prompted her to pursue a career in the artistic world. After high school in San Diego, Welch decided to move to Dallas and attend a beauty school. Once she finished, she headed to California to chase her acting dreams.

At the beginning of her career, Raquel Welch had some minor roles in TV shows and movies like "A House Is Not a Home" and "The Swingin' Maiden." However, it wasn't until 1966 that she got her big break in "One Million Years B.C.," which made her an instant celebrity.

Raquel Welch's role in "One Million Years B.C." was a huge game-changer for her career. Her stunning looks and incredible athletics, combined with that unforgettable fur bikini made her a sex symbol and a massive Hollywood icon.

However, her performance in this movie pigeonholed her into the role of a sexy woman – and it took her a long time to break out of this role and show her true talent.

After that, she kept getting roles in all sorts of successful films and shows like Bedazzled and Bandolero.

Until she won a Golden Globe in 1974 for his role in The Three Musketeers. With this award, she proved that she was more than just a pretty woman and that she was also a talented actress who could play important roles.

In the 1990s, Raquel Welch made cameos in some popular sitcoms such as Seinfeld (where she played herself), Spin City, Evening Shade and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

The Hollywood icon also starred in the 2001 movie "Legally Blonde" with Reese Witherspoon.

Aside from her fitness career, she was a champion for philanthropy. She's been involved in a variety of causes such as heart disease awareness and children's health – and she used her fame to help raise money and bring attention to this cause.

Additionally, she had a great sense of humor, which she showed off in her talk show interviews and ceremony appearances and never went unnoticed for her intelligence.

Her marriages

Raquel Welch has been pretty open about her dating life and marriages, usually pointing to her hectic acting career and her need for independence as the cause of their divorces.

During her life, she had four marriages and was happy during her relationships. But, her strong temper and her relentless pursuit of independence ultimately prevailed

She married her high school sweetheart, James Welch, in 1959. They had two kids, Damon and Tahnee, then split up in 1964.

In 1967, Welch tied the knot with Hollywood producer Patrick Curtis, who was known for producing the hit TV show Laugh-In. Sadly, the marriage didn't last long, and they broke up two years later in 1969.

Later, Raquel Welch married André Weinfeld, a French producer and director, in the 1980s and they were together for 8 years before calling it quits in 1988.

In 1999, Welch began a relationship with Richard Palmer, a restaurant owner. However, they divorced 5 years later, in 2004.
